Virtual reality is the future of training. More and more companies are now looking to make use of this tech in order to train employees and here we have KFC that is using a new VR game for the same purpose.
Called The Hard Way – a KFC Virtual Training Escape Room, the VR game shows players trapped within a room until they prove their “mastery” of the cooking process behind KFC’s signature dish.
The game is developed by the technology group of ad agency Wieden+Kennedy and is designed for Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.
The game takes about 10 minutes to complete which means that it can be completed in less than half the time that it takes to prepare the meal according to KFC.
Employees get to complete the 5 step cooking that includes inspecting, rinsing, breading, racking, and then pressure frying virtual chickens.
The company states:
“KFC will use the VR simulation to supplement its robust, multi-step employee training program, called Chicken Mastery Certification, which provides detailed eLearning and hands-on training for cooks in each of KFC’s kitchens.”
A KFC spokesperson noted that the game was meant to aid the training process, not to replace it entirely:
“the game is intended to supplement the existing Chicken Mastery program, not replace it…This is intended to be a fun way to celebrate the work KFC’s more than 19,000 cooks do every day in every restaurant across the U.S. in an engaging way.”
