According to a latest report, Samsung is still leading the virtual reality market followed by Sony and Facebook.
Facebook bought Oculus VR back in 2014 and Mark Zuckerberg believed:
“We believe this kind of immersive, augmented reality will become a part of daily life for billions of people.”
But this has not been the case so far. The VR headsets are pricey. Not just that, consumers do not find the experience as exciting so they are not interested in spending hundreds of dollars.
AR (augmented reality) is gaining the same level of excitement that VR once did. Both Google and Apple released AR development kits for mobile in 2017. Virtual reality, however, accounts for 98% of shipments in the AR/VR market.
The chart here shows Samsung, Sony, and Facebook leading the market. Altogether they account for 60% of global VR and AR headset shipments in the Q2 2017.
