VRChat is the social VR space that gives you the power to use an avatar of your choice and have fun with others in VR. Generally, you need Windows Mixed Reality (WMR), HTC Vive, or Oculus Rift to use this service. While they are very costly choices for sure, there is another way to enjoy VRChat without having to spend so much. You can stream VRChat if you have a Samsung Gear VR and a PC, which is a great news for those who dont wish to spend on VR entertainment.
How to get started
You need to get Steam, SteamVR, and VRChat on your computer before getting into the VRidge/Riftcat installation.
Prior to getting your phone set up, you must get Riftcat installed and running on your computer. There are some recommended specs that you can find from the Riftcat website. Follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Riftcat website.
- Click Download.
- Click Run.
- Click Accept.
- Click Install.
- Click Start Riftcat.
- Click I Accept.
How to get VRidge set up on your phone
- Launch the Google Play app
- Search for “VRidge”.
- Tap VRidge 2.0.
- Tap Install.
- Tap Open.
How to stream VRChat to Gear VR
After you have the VRidge app on your phone and Riftcat set up on your computer a connection will be attempted automatically. Next, you will see a prompt on your computer so you can place the phone inside your Gear VR and move on to your PC.
- You need to click Yes if this is your phone.
- Click the Play button. SteamVR should launch automatically.
You can launch VRChat from your PC or via SteamVR Home. To explore VRChat, you should use a gamepad or you can also use your PC’s keyboard and mouse.
