IBM and Unity are partnering together to bring the AI Watson’s functions to AR and VR games. The IBM Watson Unity SDK is available free on Unity Asset store. The store only gives access to Unity developers to the AI functions of Watson group. Well, that means a huge number of developers would be able to incorporate AI function into AR and VR games directly within the game engine with great ease.
Pokemon Go and Star Trek Bridge Crew games have been the most popular games by Unity. Some others AR and VR games have tried to overcome the mainstream fame because of their costly hardware.
This new partnership between IBM and Unity Watson will bring new technology that will move into the ‘mixed reality’ market like Microsoft’ Hololense and Magic Leap’s goggles that does not require to be linked to a computer.
According to Director of Product of IBM Watson Developers Labs & AR/VR Labs:
“2016 was an immensely successful year for VR. The world’s first real VR/AR headsets hit the market, I mean you could say there was VR in the 90s, but not really … I think the problem was that VCs got very excited and poured a bunch of money into VR and AR. After development, they were like “where’s my billions?”
IBM and Unity’s AR and VR power experience with voice controls and image recognition are the added features for Unity game engine. So it is set to make its way soon.
