AR (augmented reality) will be a $50 billion business soon

Many people are sure that it is AR which is to make its way after smartphones. Microsoft and Magic Leap are developing  headsets that transplant computer images into the real world. In addition, it is also expected that Apple and Facebook are doing something of the same kind.

At the same time, the likes of Snapchat and “Pokemon Go” have put a fundamental yet friendly face on the tech. Firms such as Doppler Labs have worked similar concepts into headphones.

This chart just reinforces those expectations. Analyst firm IDC anticipated that AR headsets will make about $50 billion in revenue by 2021, with unit sales rising over 27 million. According to IDC, most of that money is likely to come as the headsets will cost considerably more than $1,000.

According to IDC, AR’s revenue will far outpace VR (virtual reality).  Ultimately it’s the cheaper VR headsets that could harm VR in the long term, putting potential users off with poor quality experiences.
