Google Play announced that it is expanding the Age Signals API to developers globally. The API lets parents choose to share a child’s age range with apps, and lets adults share their age when prompted by an app developer.

For families, age ranges are not shared by default. Parents can manage age-sharing controls in the Google Family Link app and can update or turn off those settings at any time.

Google Play plans to expand the Age Signals API experience to users in Australia and Canada by mid-August, followed by a full global rollout to users later this year.

For developers, the expansion makes the API available globally, while the user experience is planned to roll out in stages. Google Play says apps designed for families must meet rigorous safety standards and that it continuously reviews and scans applications to help ensure they are safe for children.
